Drupal basics - #4 - Using and creating blocks and regions

The Drupal cms makes use of a common technique used in content management systems. Placing regions in to your template files gives you the opportunity to place content in these regions using just the cms. In this tutorial we will show you how to create a region, create and place a block and how to configure a block.

Creating a new region

To create a new region, first of all you will need to download your Drupal theme to your computer. You can find your theme in the sites/all/themes folder. Using Filezilla you drag and drop the theme folder to a folder on your computer. Using a text editor you start by opening the .info file of your theme.
